American universities launch courses on cryptocurrencies

2018 promises to be a year of Bitcoin in the university environment - more and more institutions add educational courses dedicated to cryptocurrencies.

Graduate School of Business at Stanford University in mid-May launches a full course on cryptocurrencies. The new course emerged after a coordinated campaign by MBA students who see the innovative concept as vital to their future career as Law subject or general economy. "Many of us will have to face a blochchain at work. It makes sense to study it" - explained sophomore Itamar Orr. "This will give us a competitive advantage and become our secret weapon."

A group of students appealed to the school's management with the request to add a full course with a full number of credits, since earlier similar subjects were taught concisely and very superficially. When Stanford opened the record for the course, the high demand for the visit confirmed its relevance - the registration was closed with more than fifty candidates on the waiting list.

Susan Athey, a professor who will lead a new course, said:

"Price fluctuations have all hypnotized everyone: how did this happen?" People have earned or lost a lot, and this, of course, captures and attracts great interest, encouraging students to study the situation. "

The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania this fall will also launch for the first time a course on cryptocurrencies. Professor Kevin Werbach said:

"We are at a point where there are many who want to study this subject. In the foreseeable future, cryptocurrencies will become a real phenomenon in business, and in five years all major business schools will add similar courses. "

Not only students are asked to add courses on cryptocurrencies to the program, but also representatives of the industry. John Jacobs, director of the McDown School of Business at Georgetown University, noted that he constantly receives calls from Wall Street from recruiters of consulting firms who say: "You need to educate students. We need people to understand how to use blockchain technology." He added that: "Any large business school should tell students about cryptocurrencies and technology of blocking. Today they are everywhere. "
