Biden Criticizes Trump for His Celebration of Surprisingly Positive Jobs Report

05.06.2020

Joe Biden, the Democratic White House candidate, expressed his disagreement with President Donald Trump’s premature celebration of the jobs report that beat expectations. Biden said that the economy was still facing serious challenges.

On Friday, the Labor Department said that the US added 2.5 million jobs amid the pandemic, which suggested the first signs of recovery from a catastrophic recession. The unemployment rate fell to 13.3% in May from 14.7% in April.

Nevertheless, Biden, Trump’s main opponent as of today, said that “there is so much more work to be done. So many Americans are still hurting.”

Today, Trump celebrated the unexpected results of the Nonfarm Payrolls report. He predicted that the economy would recover all job losses by 2021. The president said:

Today is probably, if you think of it, the greatest comeback in American history. We're going to be stronger than we were when we were riding high.”

On the other side, Biden noted that Trump’s celebration, while so many citizens were out of job, demonstrates how out of touch he was.

Meanwhile, the US protests in response to George Floyd’s death continue. Biden plans to travel to Houston next week to meet with Floyd’s family and offer his sympathies to relatives and supporters.
