In the second quarter, the net profit and revenue of German carmaker Daimler AG (DE: DAIGn) was up, in particular due to the growth of Mercedes-Benz car sales to record levels.

The company said its net profit in April-June increased by 7% to EUR 2.43 billion from EUR 2.27 billion in the same period last year.

Daimler's revenue rose 3% to 38.6 billion euro.

In the past quarter, Daimler sold a total of 761 300 cars, which is 7% higher than a year earlier.

Sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars rose by 9% to 546 500 units, a record high.

Sales of Daimler trucks in the second quarter decreased by 13% to 108 300 cars. The reduction in sales is due to the weakening demand for trucks in key markets for the company outside of Europe, according to a press release.

The earnings, excluding interest and tax payments, in the last quarter decreased by 12% to EUR 3.3 billion, due to large one-time expenses.

Thus, the company incurred expenses in the amount of 440 million euro related to the recall of vehicles due to faulty airbags issued by the Japanese Takata.

In addition, it sent about 400 million euro for the payment of a fine in accordance with the decision of the European Commission.

European regulators recently fined a record $ 2.93 billion euro 5 truck-manufacturing companies - Daimler, MAN, Volvo/Renault, Iveco and DAF, accusing them of forming a 14-year-old cartel for the purpose of price manipulation, as well as the timing of implementation of new technologies for emissions of harmful substances.

In accordance with the decision of the European Commission, Daimler will pay the largest fine - more than 1 billion euro.

The company confirmed its forecast for 2016, according to which the sales of cars will increase significantly due to the increase in demand for Mercedes-Benz models.

The automaker expects a slight increase in revenue and operating profit in 2016.
