Google presents its new smartphones

04.10.2016

Google is expected to present on Tuesday in San Francisco the new smartphones under its own brand in an effort to compete with the iPhones produced by Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) for the premium segment of the market.

Analysts expect to see Google’s other developments in the field of hardware as well, including voice assistant to manage the "smart home" called Google Home, which is to become a competitor to the domestic assistant Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) Echo, as well as a virtual reality headset called Daydream.

One of the most anticipated new products are the smartphones that will be released under the name of Pixel, which will replace the Nexus line. Considering that most manufacturers except Apple use the Android operating system from Google, the company for many years made timid attempts to get into the business of hardware, while being careful not to damage relations with other developers.

Google sells the Nexus phones since 2010, but the device has not been widely adopted in the market, which is dominated by Samsung Electronics. In addition, Google briefly owned the Motorola’s division for the production of smartphones, before selling it to Lenovo Group.

Pixel, the new phones, are expected to cost more than $ 600 and, thus, fall within the premium segment of the market, which the leading position currently goes to Apple.

The shares of Google and Apple help the US stocks, which go up on Tuesday amid the growth of the technology shares and securities restore of Deutsche Bank (DE: DBKGn).

The technology sector of S & P 500 rose 0.41% due to the growth of Apple's stock (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Alphabet by 1.5% and 0.2% respectively.

By 17.44 GMT, Dow Jones gained 0.25 % to 18302.02 points, S & P 500 - 0.11% to 2163.67 points, and Nasdaq Composite rose 0.37% to 5320.77 points.
