22.07.2015

The Net loss of Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ: MSFT), in the fourth fiscal quarter, ended June 30, was $ 3.2 billion, or $ 0.40 per share, compared with net income of $ 4.61 billion, or $ 0.55 per share, during the same period of the previous financial year, says a press release from the world's largest software maker.

The loss, resulted from the write-off of $ 7.5 billion for the acquisition of Nokia, has become the most significant in the company's history.

Investors, however, paid more attention to the weakness of the indicators related to Windows OS and Office package, despite the fact that this weakness to some extent was compensated by strong results of “cloud” division, sales of game consoles Xbox, and Surface PC tablets.

Microsoft profits, excluding write-downs and restructuring costs, were $ 0.62 per share. Analysts polled by FactSet, on average, had forecasted the figure at $ 0.58 per share.

The number of users of Office 365 service has increased in the last quarter by nearly 3 million, to 15.2 million. However, revenue from sales of Office in the consumer sector has declined by 42% and in the commercial sector by 18%, partly due to the peculiarities of accounting Microsoft.

Revenue from Microsoft "cloud" services in the last quarter grew by 88%.

Revenue of devices and consumer goods and services division fell 13%, to $ 8.7 billion. A major negative factor was the decrease in revenues from sales of Windows OS by 22%, due to the downturn in the PC market, and with the expectations of the new version of OS - Windows 10, the next week.

Revenues from the sale of Surface jumped by 117% to $ 888 million, the Xbox brought a 27% increase in revenue for the fourth quarter compared to the previous year.
