Semiannual Renault sales were up due to the new models

Global sales of Renault rose 13.4 % in the first half of this year to a new record of 1.57 million vehicles, as the active updating of a new model series allowed the French automaker to show better dynamics on the recovering in European market.

The automaker intends to "closely monitor the situation in the UK market" for a possible slowdown in connection to the referendum in the UK to leave the European Union, said Thierry Koskas, the director of Renault group sales and marketing, in a press conference on Thursday.

Renault left unchanged its full-year forecast of the market and sales, waiting the growth of the European car market by more than 5 %. In the period from January to June, sales in Europe increased by 14 % at 9.6 % rise in the overall market.

Deliveries of Renault and Dacia brands of cars in the first half surpassed the market in all major regions. Sales increased by 16 % in Europe and 38 % in Africa, the Middle East and India, supported by the recent launch of the model Kwid mini-SUV.

Koskas said that Renault is unlikely to be in response to the British referendum revise downward the expectations in the semi-annual statements of the company, which will be published on July 28. However, he added that "it is necessary to wait until September to assess the possible impact of Brexit on the market."

As for the French stock market, it closed trading on Thursday with growth due to the strengthening of industry, utilities and oil and gas sectors.

At the close of the Paris stock exchange, CAC 40 rose 0.80%, and SBF 120 index rose 0.82%.

At the Paris stock exchange, the number of advancing securities (452) exceeded the number closed in the red (193), and the quotes of 120 shares remained virtually unchanged.

Meanwhile, EUR/USD fell 0.31% to 1.1065, and EUR/GBP fell 0.22%, reaching 0.8565.

The USD Index rose 0.16% to 96.28.
