The US stock market closed Monday trading in mixed directions due to the strengthening of the health, consumer services and utilities sectors, and negative dynamics on the part of raw materials, oil and gas, and industry sectors.
At the close on the New York Stock Exchange, Dow Jones fell by 0.20%, S&P 500 rose 0.08%, and NASDAQ Composite Index went up by 0.30%.
The leaders of growth among the Dow Jones index components were the shares of Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE: WMT), up 0.70 p. (1.03%), to 68.95. The quotes of Merck & Company Inc (NYSE: MRK) rose 0.50 p. (0.93%), ending trading at 54.10. The shares of Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) rose 0.97 p. (0.86%), to 113.72.
The worst performers were the shares of Caterpillar Inc (NYSE: CAT), the price of which has fallen by 2.58 p. (3.52%), to 70.78. Shares of Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) fell 1.51 p. (1.48%) to 100.35, while United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX) decreased in price by 1.03 p. (1. 02%) and finished trading at around 100.09.
The leaders of growth among S&P 500 Index components were the shares of Mallinckrodt (NYSE: MNK), which rose 6.14% to 59.85, Allergan Plc (NYSE: AGN), which gained 5.98% to 213.71, and shares of Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (NYSE: CMG), which rose 4.49%, to 453.17.
Leaders of falling were the shares of Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc (NYSE: FCX), which fell in price by 10.77% to close at 10.52. Shares of Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK) lost 10.68% and closed the session at 4.10 and the quotes of Transocean Ltd (NYSE: RIG) decreased in price by 6.92% to a mark of 9.96.
The leaders of growth among the NASDAQ Composite index components were the shares of AveXis Inc (NASDAQ: AVXS), up 24.08% to 31.43, Ceragon Networks Ltd (NASDAQ: CRNT), up 20.34%, to 1.42, and shares of Argos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ARGS), up 18.12% to 6.91.
The worst results came from the shares of Fairway Group Holdings Corp (NASDAQ: FWM), which fell in price by 33.91%, closing at 0.1150. The shares of Unilife Corporation (NASDAQ: UNIS) lost 29.04% and closed the session at 0.3601, and quotes of Bind Therap (NASDAQ: BIND) decreased in value by 24.56% to reach 0.43.
On the New York Stock Exchange the number of cheapened securities (1777) exceeded the number closed in positive territory (1549), while the quotes of 29 shares remained virtually unchanged. On the NASDAQ, the papers of 1380 companies rose, 1186 decreased, and 64 remained at the previous close.
Meanwhile, EUR/USD fell 0.18% to 1.1383, and USD/JPY rose 1.15%, reaching 108.35.
