The euro fell against the dollar because of the worries about Greece

On Tuesday, the euro fell against the dollar, the next day after the maximum decline of the session over the past two months, as concerns over a possible default by Greece continued to weigh on demand.

The EUR/USD fell 0.25% to 1.1278 after closing on Monday at 1.1314. During the last session, the European currency went down by 1.05% against the dollar.

The concerns about Greece continue to press the single currency, even though today's statement by the Minister of Labor of the country, that the agreement with creditors will soon be reached.

Athens do not lose hope to reach an agreement with its foreign creditors on time, to get financial help in exchange for reforms and avoid a liquidity crisis.

At the weekend it became known from leaked International Monetary Fund notes that Athens is not possible to repay the loan on June 5 without reaching agreement and release of bailout funds.

The last week, Greece got even closer to the default, paying 750 million euro to IMF from its emergency reserve in the account at the IMF.

At the end of the last week the dollar fell to four-month minimums against the basket of major currencies after the publication of a fresh series of disappointing US economic reports, which resumed the expectations that the Federal Reserve will refrain from raising rates.

The dollar regained the position on Monday, as investors have focused on the US inflation data, expected on Friday, while on Wednesday it will be published the minutes of the April meeting of the Fed, which, as the forecast says, will indicate the timing of the initial rise in interest rates.

The USD index, which tracks the US currency against the basket of six major rivals, is trading at 94.34.

The euro went also down against the yen. EUR/JPY lost 0.25%, getting to 135.41. The pair USD/JPY is stable at 119.95.

The yen is maintained at this position because of the increased expectations that the Bank of Japan will expand its large-scale program of encourage later this year. The central bank is expected to keep monetary policy unchanged during the upcoming Friday meeting.
